Jalen Brunson again carried the New York Knicks late, pouring in 32 points in a 121-116 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans that stretched the team’s winning run to seven games and pushed the Knicks to within percentage points of the Boston Celtics for second place in the Eastern Conference.
Brunson’s closing burst decided the contest, with the guard producing 15 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 in a row during a crucial spell with around seven minutes left, before adding five of the Knicks’ final seven points to close out New Orleans and underline Brunson’s growing status as a late-game specialist for New York.

Coach Mike Brown described Brunson’s freedom within the New York Knicks structure and compared that trust to other elite scorers in the league. Brown said, "That's what great players do, Great players, when it matters the most, when the pressure's the highest, sometimes that means drawing two and kicking it out to OG [Anunoby] for a wide-open three or someone else. He was great at that tonight. For who he is and for me as a coach, I never put a cap on those guys. You don't put a cap on Steph Curry in Golden State. Jalen Brunson here, and Jaylen Brown in Boston. You let those guys be who they are."
Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby backed Brunson with 21 points each, giving the New York Knicks three strong scoring options against the Pelicans defence. Towns also contributed on the glass, finishing with eight rebounds as New York’s starting group controlled key stretches, particularly before Brunson shifted fully into scoring mode in the last quarter.
Earlier in the night, Anunoby and Towns appeared more prominent offensively for the New York Knicks, with Anunoby efficient on the wing and Towns already on 21 points and eight rebounds entering the fourth quarter, while Brunson sat on 16. New York then stalled, turnovers increased, and Brunson responded by taking command of possessions when the offence lost rhythm.
Brunson’s impact became clearest during the last four minutes against the Pelicans, when the New York Knicks guard scored nine points and stayed composed at the line, converting five free throws. Teammate Josh Hart explained the team’s confidence in Brunson during those closing sequences, saying, "That's a position he wants to be in, We want him in that position. You learn when you watch his game and play this game that the last 3-4 minutes of a game are winning time. That's where your superstars show why they are at that level. That's what he did."
The victory kept the New York Knicks’ seven-game surge alive and highlighted how Brunson, supported by Towns, Anunoby and Hart, continues to handle pressure moments, strengthening New York’s push near the top of the Eastern Conference and offering another example of Brunson’s ability to decide close contests against strong opposition like the Pelicans.
