Jalen Brunson expressed his joy as the New York Knicks reached the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years, following a significant win over the Boston Celtics. Brunson contributed 23 points, six assists, and six rebounds, hitting eight of 14 shots. The Knicks secured a 119-81 victory in Game 6, clinching the series 4-2 after a previous loss to the Celtics.
The Knicks' triumph sets up a showdown with the Indiana Pacers for a spot in the NBA Finals. Game 1 is scheduled at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Rick Brunson, Jalen's father and now an assistant coach for the Knicks, was part of the last team to reach this stage in 2000 when they lost to the Pacers.

The Knicks achieved their largest playoff victory margin with a 38-point win. This marks their fourth series win since Tom Thibodeau became head coach in 2020. When asked about this performance, Thibodeau remarked: "Probably. I thought from start to finish we were terrific." He praised the Celtics' resilience and acknowledged that earning this win was crucial.
Reflecting on their journey, Jalen Brunson noted: "This is great. The fact we haven't been here since my dad was on the team—he's not going to like that! But it means a lot to this organisation and this city." He highlighted their defensive plays and offensive momentum as key factors in overcoming Boston's challenge.
Despite celebrating their success, forward Mikal Bridges emphasised that there is more work ahead: "I just think there's still more to go. We're not done," Bridges said. He acknowledged their hard work but stressed that their season continues.
The Knicks previously faced defeat against Indiana in last year's Eastern Conference semifinals. Coach Thibodeau remains focused on preparing for this formidable opponent: "We know that Indiana is a terrific team and we're going to have to be ready."
This achievement holds special significance for both Jalen and Rick Brunson, linking past and present successes for the Knicks. As they prepare for Indiana, maintaining focus will be essential for advancing further in the playoffs.
