Singapore, March 16: In just over a week from now, ONE Interim Muay Thai and Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion Janet Todd will look to set herself apart from the pack in women's combat sports.
That's because on Saturday, March 25, at ONE Fight Night 8: Bhullar vs. Malykhin, Todd will clash with the returning ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for the chance to become an official two-sport ONE World Champion.
Todd has been a dominant figure since arriving in ONE. Following her capture of the kickboxing crown against Stamp Fairtex in 2020, the California native has won three outings in a row, including a stunning third-round stoppage of Anne Line Hogstad.
"JT's" last appearance inside the Circle in June 2022 at ONE 159 saw her dispatch Lara Fernandez for the ONE Interim Atomweight Muay Thai World Title, leaving no doubt she was next in line for the returning Brazilian queen.
The two were first due to meet last December at ONE on Prime Video 5. However, Todd contracted COVID on fight week, forcing the bout to be moved ahead. But if anything, in the eyes of the challenger, allowing her to prepare more thoroughly for Rodrigues.
"I think that time has helped me hone some skills that would work against Allycia," Todd said." It also allowed me to work more of the creative side of my brain so that when I do get in a certain situation, I can flow from one movement to the next. So it allows me to move more freely, knowing I have more tools to work with."
Coincidentally, both Todd and Rodrigues claimed their divisional World Titles just four weeks apart from one another in the summer of 2020. Ever since then, Todd has had eyes on ruling the women's all-striking world in ONE.
In fact, it was a dream the American had in mind when she arrived in The Home of Martial Arts back in February 2019, when she initially debuted against the former two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp.
Her second shot at Muay Thai gold looms ever so close, and for Todd, it's a moment she cannot wait to fulfil.
"Oh, man, it's been four years in the making now. The fact that I had to wait again for another three months - yeah, it's been something I've wanted for a really long time," she said.
"I'm really looking forward to it. It will be dream come true. It's something that I have wanted for four years."
