Jankovic ends Davenport's comeback run in China

By Staff

Beijing, Sep 22: American Lindsay Davenport got her first taste of defeat in a year when she lost 6-3 7-5 to second seed Jelena Jankovic in the semi-finals of the China Open today.

Davenport, 31, had won eight straight matches and last week's Bali tournament on her return to tennis after a year in retirement and three months after giving birth to a son Jagger.

World number three Jankovic was a break down in both set but Davenport made 20 unforced errors over the one and a half hours of a sometimes ill-tempered contest and the Serbian battled back to claim her place in the final.

Jankovic, who avenged a quarter-final defeat to the former world number one in Bali last week, will meet local hope Peng Shuai or Hungarian sixth seed Agnes Szavay tomorrow.
