Jannik Sinner Extends Wimbledon Run To Semi-Final In 2026 After Struff Win
Jannik Sinner moved a step closer to defending the Wimbledon crown after beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets to reach the semi-finals. The world number one advanced in the quarter-finals and will next meet either Novak Djokovic or Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the final.
The Italian reached a third Wimbledon semi-final at the All England Club with a 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 win. The match lasted two hours and 37 minutes, and Sinner again showed composure in key moments to keep the title defence on track.

The opening set stayed on serve for the first 10 games, with neither player offering break chances. Struff matched Sinner from the baseline and on serve during that spell. Sinner then raised the level, captured a crucial break, and closed the set with a three-game burst.
The second set began with both players breaking early, as Struff responded well after falling behind. The German matched Sinner’s aggression from the back of the court and saved a set point in the 10th game. However, Sinner edged the tie-break 7-4 after winning the first three points.
Struff again held firm on serve in the early stages of the third set and resisted pressure on the return games. Sinner eventually tightened control, finishing the contest with another sequence of three consecutive games. The final surge delivered a 6-3 set and completed the straight-sets victory.
Sinner’s victory added further weight to the record as world number one. Sinner now owns 95 ATP-level match wins while ranked number one, moving past Stefan Edberg’s total of 94. That tally makes Sinner the outright holder of 10th place on the all-time list.

The Italian is now one of only five players since 2000 to reach 10 men’s singles semi-finals at grand slams before turning 25. The group includes Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner has therefore joined a select group of recent major contenders.
Sinner’s head-to-head record against Struff at ATP level now stands at four wins from four meetings. Their previous encounter also occurred in a quarter-final, in Halle in 2024, where Sinner then went on to lift the title. The latest result extended that winning sequence.
Since debuting at the US Open in 2019, Sinner has built a strong record at majors. Only Djokovic with 131 wins and Alexander Zverev with 99 have more men’s singles grand slam match victories in that span than Sinner’s 97. All three remain active in the draw on 7 July 2026.
