Japan makes clean sweep in World Junior Circuit TT meet

Panaji, Sep 15 (UNI) Japan, as expected, proved their supremacy in table tennis winning four titles while India had to be content with three titles in the World Junior Circuit Table Tennis Open Championship that concluded here today.

Japan won both the junior boys and girls team championship titles crushing Iran and India with an identical margin of 3-0 respectively. Japan had earlier won the boys and girls single titles on September 13.

Hosts India today clinched the cadet boys team championship defeating Singapore 3-1. India, earlier, had won both the cadet boys and girls singles titles on September 13.

In the finals in the junior boys team, Japan beat Iran 3-0. In the first singles, Ueda Jin beat Taherkhani Hamidreaza 11-3, 11-6, 11-9, while in the second singles, Miuchi Kentaro beat Alamiyan Noshad 11-3, 3-11, 11-8, 11-3. In the doubles, Miuchi Kentaro and Jin beat Noshad and Hanidreaza 11-7, 11-3, 6-11, 11-8.

In the girls team final, Japan beat India 3-0. In the first singles, Fuji Yuko beat Divya Deshpande 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, while in the second singles, Wakamiya Misako beat Saumi Mondal 11-9, 11-5, 11-4. In the doubles, Fuju Yuko and Wakamiya made short work of Divya and Saumi 11-4, 11-4, 11-3.

In the cadet boys team final, India beat Singapore 3-1. In the first singles, Harmet Desai beat Pang Xue Jie 11-7, 11-7, 11-9, while in the second singles, Gnanasekaran Sathiyan beat Lim Jie Yan 11-6, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10. In the doubles, Nitin Vasantha Philip and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan lost to Lim Jie Yan and Pang Xue Jie 5-11, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11. In the third singles, Sathiyan beat Pang Xue Jie 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4.
