JCT beat Salgaonkar 4-0 to enter I-league

Ludhiana, Feb 23(UNI) JCT, Phagwara concluded the I-league championship with an impressive 4-0 victory over Salgaonkar Sports Club, Goa at Guru Nanak stadium here today.

JCT finished the championship with 33 points from 9 wins 6 draws and three losses.

The final standing, however, will be known after the outcome of the matches to be played by Dempo Sports Club and Churchill Brothers both of whom are tied at 33 pt each.

Both these teams are also playing their last matches of the league today.

Meanwhile, Salgaonkar finished with 11 points and face elimination from the first division league.

The goal scorers in today's match were JCT skipper Sunil Chhettri (31st and 43rd minutes) and Eduardo Escobar (37th and 47th).

Escobar finished the league with an impressive tally of 14 goals.

The millmen virtually toyed with Salgaonkar players, scoring the first goal in the 31st minute through Chhettri and six minutes later Escobar made it 2-0.

Then again in the 43rd minute, Chhetri combined with Escobar, hit the net for the second time to take 3-0 lead.

Immediately after the resumption in the second half, the millmen struck with Escobar heading home a corner shot taken by Marcos.

Salgaonkar posed no problem for the JCT defence throughout the match.
