Jeev, Kapur fail to finish inside top ten in Qatar Masters

Doha, Jan 28 (UNI) Jeev Milkha Singh carded a vastly improved two-under 72 to finish tied 22nd while Shiv Kapur returned a modest one-under 71 to end tied 27th in the the 2.2 million dollar Qatar Masters here today.

The third Indian in the fray S S P Chowrasia had another disastrous day as he carded a poor two-over 74 to finish tied 65th with a total of four over 292.

Jeev sank in four birdies against two bogeys to take his total tally to six-under 282 for a rather disappointing finish considering that he was among the top ten after the second round.

The Asian Tour UBS Order of Merit winner was tied eighth at the end of the second round, on the day he received the Padmashri from the Indian government, but undid all the good work by carding a shocking three over par 75 in the third round yesterday to slip to the 26th spot and in the process, effectively blew away his chances of a creditable finish.

Shiv Kapur, who was tied fourth after the second round, failed to keep the momentum going as he ended with a total of five-under 283.

He played a particularly pathetic back nine today as he ended up with a hatrick of bogeys on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes.

South African Retief Goosen blasted an eagle at the last hole to win the Qatar Masters in spectacular manner.

Goosen came from a stroke behind Australia's Nick O'Hern to win by one shot with a final round 69 for a 15-under par tally.

South African world number five Ernie Els was in third place on 13-under par after his round of 67.
