Montreal, Jun 13: It must count among his most important days as Jenson Button won a rain-affected thriller to clinch the Canadian Grand Prix on Jun 12. The English driver, beat Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel in the last lap of the Grand Prix.
In an exciting race for all, Button first had a collision with Lewis Hamilton in the early stages and received a drive-through penalty for speeding while the safety car was out. Adding further drama to what was shaping up as a very challenging race, a heavy rain followed to delay the race by two hours.
But just as the race was appearing to restart, Button suffered a punctured tyre after a collision with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. As a result of the collision, Alonso's car went crashing into a wall -- and the incident is now set to be investigated by race stewards.
Meanwhile, Michael Schumacher showed glimpses of his legendary skill and finished fourth in the race. Mark Webber, the Red Bull driver denied Schumacher his first podium finish since returning from retirement last year.
Speaking to reporters, a jubilant Button said, "Even if I hadn't won I would have enjoyed this race immensely, but it's a win, definitely my best. I'm definitely going to be celebrating. I'll have a good night and enjoy what I achieved. A big thank you to the team for what they've done."
Disappointed, with the result, World Champion Sebastain Vettel said. "I was probably too conservative at the last safety car and I did not open up enough of a gap. Then when it came down to the fight at the end the mistake was down to me, I locked up the rear. t is still a good day as many mistakes were made and cars did not finish, yet we've picked up good points."
