Jha triumphs at LG Northern India Amateur Golf

Gurgaon, August 10 (UNI) OIL India's Abhishek Jha pipped Ajeetesh Sandhu in a sudden death play-off to triumph at the LG Northern India Amateur Golf Champion,here today.

Jha birdied the play-off hole after the two golfers were tied at 11-over 299 apiece in regulation play.

Mithun Perera brought in a final round card of one under 71 to share the third place with overnight leader Vikram Rana at 300.

ONGC's Rana shot a 78 today.

Jasjeet Singh, Gagan Verma and Rakesh Kumar finished tied fifth at 301. While Jasjeet shot a 78, Verma and Kumar brought in cards of 75 and 72 respectively.

The play-off on the par-4 375 yard first hole, teed off with Jha hitting a massive 368 yards drive just short of the green. Sandhu missed the fairway with his tee shot and hit his second shot to within 20 yards from the pin. Meanwhile, Jha chipped his second shot to within four feet from the pin for a birdie while Sandhu missed his 20 foot birdie putt and a chance to win his first amateur tournament.
