Jhanlo Mark Sangiao Reflects On His Triumphant Return After A Two Year Hiatus

By MyKhel Staff

Days before his comeback MMA fight, Jhanlo Mark Sangiao promised a finish and a better version of himself - and it took him just 14 minutes and 42 seconds to prove that.

The Filipino mixed martial artist defeated Mongolian star Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg via rear-naked choke in the curtain-raiser of ONE Fight Night 33, which aired live from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on 12 July.

"The Machine" dominated his opponent throughout the fight, securing the submission finish in the final seconds of the last round. Sangiao felt elated after his convincing win and admitted he was able to execute his game plan effortlessly.

"It felt amazing, I'm back to the winning game, and I'm planning to keep it that way," Sangiao said. The game plan was to put him on the ground and punish him. The game plan was executed, as you can see from the result."

His fourth submission win under the ONE banner came nearly two years after suffering defeat from another Mongolian fighter, Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu. Now, the 23-year-old star has reflected on why this victory was of importance to him.

"It was extremely important. I came from a loss and a long hiatus. I needed this win so much to prove that I am here and will be here. This win also made me realize that mental strength is as important as physical strength," Sangiao said.

Recently, life blessed the Team Lakay representative with the birth of his baby and now, he has conquered his opponent. Sangiao said his baby gave him extra motivation. He also revealed that whatever ONE Championship decides for his future fights, he will be ready.

"Of course, becoming a father gave me a special motivation that pushed me to win this fight. As a father, what I am doing now is for my son. For now, I am more focused on going back to training and improving myself. I will leave that to ONE Championship," Sangiao said.
