Jharkhand challenged by other states in Archery
Guwahati, February 15 (UNI) Jharkhand faced strong challenges from hosts Asom and Manipur as they secured two Gold, three Silver and two Bronze in the archery competition at the 33rd National Games here today.
Manipur bagged two Gold and one Bronze while the hosts finished with one Gold, three Silver and two Bronze.
Without India international Jayanta Talukdar, the Jharkhand team looked ordinary as and Rahul Banerjee was pushed to the second spot in the recurve men event where Mangal Singh of Andhra Pradesh bagged the Gold and Rajib Basumatary from Asom won the Bronze.
Another star performer, Dola Banerjee also failed to live up to the reputation managing just Silver in recurve women event where Sushma from Uttar Pradesh got the Gold. Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland bagged the Bronze.
The team event was also won by Uttar Pradesh followed by Jharkhand and Asom.
In the recurve men team event, Chandigarh bagged the Gold while Services pushed Jharkhand to the third place. However, Jharkhand came back strongly to claim its first Gold through Kali Charan Besra in the Indian round men event where Bishnu Ram Nath of Asom bagged the Silver Ramanbhai Dubhil of Gujarat secured the Bronze.
For the team event of the Indian round, Asom claimed the Gold while Services came second and Gujarat third.
The compound men event was dominated by Delhi as Rajawant Singh Sidhu and Vikash Sherawat claimed the Gold and Silver respectively and Aryayart Daba from Maharashtra won the Bronze medal.
The women event of Indian round witnessed a strong Manipur challenge as its Laishram Devi bagged the gold while her compatriot Huidrom Rajpriyari Devi got the Bronze. Prativa Boro of Hosts Asom secured the Silver in the event.
Manipur took its medal tally in the event to two Gold when its women team also secured first position in the Indian round. Asom again succeeded in bagging the silver while Arunachal Pradesh got its lone Bronze medal in archery from it.
Jharkhand, however, registered its strength in archery by winning all the three medals in compound women event with Manjusha Soy securing the Gold, Jhano Hansdah Silver and Namita Yadav ensuring the Bronze.
