Jharkhand struggles against Haryana on Day 2

Jamshedpur, Nov 16 (UNI) Hosts Jharkhand were on the backfoot after scoring 179 for six and trailed by 94 runs in the first innings against Haryana on the second day of the plate group B Ranji trophy league match at the Keenan stadium here today.

With some useful contributions from tailenders Sanjay Budhwar(24) and captain Amit Mishra(23), Haryana were all out for 273 in 110.3 overs after resuming at the overnight 228 for seven.

Jharkhand's stirke bowler S S Rao finished with 3 for 66, while spinners S Nadeem and S Gupta chipped in two wickets each.

Jharkhand's top order bastmen looked hapless before the T-20 World Cup star all rounder Joginder Sharma's medium pace bowling as the home team lost the two openers, captain Manish Vardhan and Ratan Kumar for ducks and number three batsman Arun Vidyarthi also failed to open his account as the scoreboard read five for three. Thanks to Mr Extra for contributing five runs.

While Joginder scalped the prize wicket of Vardhan and Vidyarthi, his partner Budhwar scalped the wicket of Kumar.

However, gritty half centuries by Aamir Hashmi (50) and Sunny Gupta (50 not out) saved the day for the hosts. Hashmi first contributed 33 runs with Saurabh Tiwary (14) for the fourth wicket stand and then 53 runs fifth wicket partnership with Gupta but he was dismissed soon after reaching his half-century, which compiled with eight fours, facing 102 balls.

After the exit of wicket keeper Madhusudan Tantubai(4) when the scoreboard showed a pathetic 101 for six, Gupta along with Shahwaz Nadeem (39 not out) shouldered the responsibilty and took the score to 179 as the duo contributed valuable 78 runs in the unfinished seventh wicket stand.

Spinners Gaurav Vashisth and Amit Mishra bagged two and one wickets, sparing 24 and 52 runs respectively.
