Jimmy Butler expressed his excitement after securing a trade from the Miami Heat to the Golden State Warriors. He is now focused on winning an NBA championship. Butler had been seeking a move away from Miami due to multiple suspensions since January. The Heat accused him of repeatedly breaking team rules and withholding services, following an incident where he reportedly left a practice session abruptly.
On Wednesday, just a day before the league's trade deadline, reports surfaced that the Warriors were trading Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round draft pick to Miami in exchange for Butler. After finalising the trade and signing a $111 million, two-year contract extension, Butler expressed his eagerness to rekindle his passion for basketball with Golden State.

Reflecting on recent events, Butler stated, "All of that is behind me, moving forward. I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to be wanted again. I've got a feeling I'm going to be back, in a big way, too. So I'm smiling. I've been going at it, I've been doing everything I'm supposed to be doing. I know that I have my joy back now. I'm in a different situation, with a different group of guys."
Butler has yet to win an NBA championship despite reaching the Finals twice with Miami in 2020 and 2023. The Warriors aim for their seventh NBA Finals appearance in 11 years but are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 25-26 record after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
Butler is optimistic about helping the Warriors return to prominence. "I would like to say that I am a winner," he remarked. "I haven't won 'it' but I would like to call myself a winner. I do want to win 'it'—it being a championship." Now part of the Warriors roster, Butler will team up with two-time MVP Stephen Curry.
Playing alongside Curry seems straightforward for Butler: "We good. Pass the ball to Steph and get out of the way. Easy," he said confidently.
The transition marks a fresh start for Butler as he aims to contribute significantly to his new team while pursuing his first NBA title.
