Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) Congress MP and scion of the Rs 18000 crore Jindal Group Naveen Jindal made history today by becoming the first Parliamentarian to win a medal in the National Games.
A national record holder in the skeet shooting, Mr Jindal, however had to remain satisfied with a silver for his home team Haryana as Andhra Pradesh outscored them to bag the gold.
Mr Jindal had earlier captained the Indian shooting team and won silver medal in the SAF Games held at Pakistan in 2004. He had also won two silver medals in the 48th National Shooting Championship (Big bore event), Indore, 2004.
After a gruelling final, Services had to remain content with third position as the Haryana team comprising Naveen Jindal, Yaseer Tanvir and Mairaj Ahmed Khan outcalssed the Services.
''It is nice to win a medal at National Games but we would have been happy to win the gold,'' said Mr Jindal, who has been credited as someone who gave Indians the right to fly their national flag.
He had last year turned up for Chhattisgarh and under his captaincy the shooting team won the gold medal in his favourite Skeet event at 49th National Shooting Championship and retained their title for the fifth year in succession.
Mr Jindal was elected MP from Kurukshetra constituency in 2004 with a huge margin against Mr Abhay Chautala, son of then Harayana Chief Minister O P Chautala.
In the shooting discipline, Services has maintained their traditional domination despite not having the top stars like Raghavendra Singh Rathore.
The Services so far won 10 medals of which three are gold, four silver and three bronze.
Maharashtra stands second with six medals consisting of three gold, two silver and one bronze.
