Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Hosts Jammu and Kashmir today started their campaign on a bright note defeating Pudducherry 2-0, in the inaugural match of 62nd National Football tournament for Santosh Trophy-2008, played at Bakshi Stadium here today.

Playing like a well-oiled machine, hosts attacked the rival defence from the word go.

Waseem Feroze drew the first blood for Jammu and Kashmir in the 19th minute.

Thirteen minutes later, Bilal Ahmad consolidated the lead and scoring another goal through a penalty shoot.

Pudducherry received several chances to send the ball in the net but they failed to take advantage and ended on the losing side.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad declared the 62nd Santosh Trophy opened, which was held in the state after 30 years.
