JKFA short listed 22-players for Santosh trophy-2008

Srinagar, May 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKLF) today short listed 22 players for the62nd National football championship Santosh trophy-2008.

After a month long coaching of 30 footballers from all over the state, 22 members were selected by the JKFA About 31 teams from all over the country would participate in the championship being held in Srinagar and Jammu from May 25.

Addressing a press conference here the chief spokesman of JKFA Prof Bashir said 30 players were short listed after three day trails conducted by the JKFA on April 21.

The players were send for a month long coaching camp, the camp imparted by coach Biswajeet Bhattacharya from Bengal and assisted by state coach Abdul Majeed Kakroo, a former Indian football team captain.

He said, out of the 30 players 22 were selected for playing the host team.

However, he said two more players will have to be dropped.

About 651 players and officials of 31 teams from across the country would participate in the 22-day-long tournament.

Out of roster of 52 matches, 13 cluster matches would be held at Jammu at two grounds -- Maulana Azad Stadium and GGM Science College----, while 39 matches including pre-quarter, quarter, semi-finals and final matches would be held at Bakshi Stadium and Polo ground in Srinagar.

He said all arrangements were finalised for the smooth conduct of the tournament, being held in the state after 30 years of long wait.
