Joel Embiid acknowledged that his initial five minutes back in the NBA were challenging, but he is confident that he will regain his comfort level with the Philadelphia 76ers. After missing nine games due to a left knee issue and a three-game suspension, Embiid returned on Tuesday. Despite his efforts, the 76ers suffered a 111-99 defeat against the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup, marking their record at 2-8 for the season.
Embiid's performance was understandably rusty during his 26-minute stint. He scored 13 points, shooting 2-for-11 from the field but was perfect from the free throw line with 8-for-8. Additionally, he contributed three rebounds, five assists, and one block. "I felt OK," Embiid said afterward. "The first five minutes were rough, but I guess that's what happens when you haven't played in a while. I felt after that, I still should be rusty. That's expected, but I thought overall, I felt pretty good health-wise."
During the game’s opening play, Embiid delivered an excellent pass to Paul George for an easy layup. This marked George's standout performance as a Sixer, scoring 29 points on 10-for-19 shooting and hitting seven out of eleven three-pointers. George also grabbed ten rebounds as he and Embiid shared the court for the first time. "It felt good," Embiid commented about playing alongside George. "I thought tonight, he had a nice rhythm which we're going to need him to keep doing."

Embiid emphasized his role in facilitating plays for teammates by setting screens and creating opportunities for them to score easily. He expressed that making the game simple is crucial as he regains confidence on the court. The next challenge for the struggling 76ers is facing the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers, who recently defeated the Chicago Bulls with a score of 119-113.
Despite previously stating he would avoid playing back-to-back games in his career, Embiid hinted at possibly participating against the Cavaliers if he feels physically ready. "I mean, I want to," Embiid said regarding playing consecutive games. "That's up to those guys. I know I said I'll never play back-to-backs, but I'm a troll so I'm sure at some point I'll play if I feel good."
The Philadelphia 76ers currently sit at fourteenth place in the Eastern Conference standings. As they prepare for their upcoming match against Cleveland, Embiid's potential participation could be pivotal for their performance.
