Jon Rahm Shows Strong Performance At PGA Championship Heading Into Final Round

Jon Rahm demonstrated impressive form during the third round of the PGA Championship, carding a 67 to position himself for a strong finish. With key birdies and an eagle, he remains in contention as the tournament progresses.

Jon Rahm felt he was hitting his stride at the PGA Championship following an impressive third round. His score of 67 propelled him up the leaderboard at Quail Hollow. The former US Open and Masters champion handled the windy conditions well, ending six under par. He was three shots behind Scottie Scheffler, who took the lead late in his round.

Rahm expressed satisfaction with his performance, especially after making birdies that brought him closer to the leaders. "Yeah, especially I started making birdies and getting closer. That birdie on 14, with an eagle, I would have gotten closer quicker," Rahm said about his strong back-nine play. He noted that finishing even par on the Green Mile would position him well for the final day.

Rahm's Strong Play at PGA Championship

Alex Noren ended his third round with a flourish, securing four birdies in his last five holes. His impressive score of 66 placed him at eight under par. Despite this strong finish, Noren's lead was short-lived as Scheffler quickly overtook him. Scheffler responded to a bogey on the 13th hole with a remarkable drive on the next hole, leading to an eagle and moving to nine under.

The third round faced delays due to adverse weather conditions, causing nearly a three-and-a-half-hour pause. This led to players being grouped in threes and starting from different tees. World number one Scheffler overcame an initial bogey by scoring three birdies over four holes before sinking an eagle putt on the 14th.

At six under par, Rahm was trailing Bryson DeChambeau by two shots after DeChambeau gained strokes on the 14th and 15th holes. However, DeChambeau struggled towards the end of his round, dropping three shots on the 16th and 17th holes but managed to recover slightly on the final hole to finish five under.

Overnight leader Jhonattan Vegas had a challenging start with two bogeys but had a chance to regain the lead after driving onto the par-four eighth green. Unfortunately, he missed out after three-putting from 26 feet and ended two shots off the lead.

Davis Riley shot a round of 67 to climb to seven under par. Meanwhile, Masters champion Rory McIlroy found himself struggling at two over through fifteen holes.

The competition remains fierce as players head into the final day with several contenders vying for victory at Quail Hollow.
