"Grow A Pair" – Jonathan Haggerty Takes Aim At Superlek Following ONE Fight Night 19

By Mike Joseph

Two-weight ONE World Champion Jonathan Haggerty proved he's championship material after overcoming Felipe Lobo this past weekend at ONE Fight Night 19. He survived an early onslaught to stop "Demolition Man" in the third round. And with the thrilling victory, the target on the Englishman's back has only grown larger.

"The General" took the Brazilian's best shots in the final minute of the opening frame, suffering a standing eight-count as his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title reign appeared to be on the rocks. The Londoner says he was caught off guard but dug deep to respond emphatically.

"I'm gonna lie, I saw stars when I fell. I didn't know where that came from. I didn't expect it at all. The main thing is, you come back from it and that's how you grow as a fighter. You go down, you get up twice," Haggerty said in a post-fight interview.

Since accumulating consecutive World Titles, Haggerty continues to be the most wanted man in ONE Championship. And one of those chasing a superfight with him is ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9.

The pair met in 2018, where an injury rendered "The General" unable to continue and Superlek was awarded the TKO. Since moving to bantamweight, Haggerty has been untouchable.

He's heard Superlek's statements, and he believes if the Thai wants the fight, it's time to put action in front of words. "Superlek needs to stop talking about it, grow a pair, eat a bit more food, and let's do it," Haggerty said.

Among those intrigued by a superfight between Haggerty and Superlek is ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong. However, the ONE boss knows that the Englishman is very much in demand with two World Titles to defend.

On top of that, Sityodtong wants to make fights that fans want to see the most. And he believes that includes Haggerty locking horns with former kickboxing king Hiroki Akimoto or a trilogy with ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

"I am definitely interested in Superlek versus Haggerty. I will talk to my team," Sityodtong said. "But fans are asking most for two fights for Haggerty - a kickboxing defense versus Akimoto or a rematch with Rodtang in Muay Thai."
