Julius Randle has decided to remain with the Minnesota Timberwolves. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Randle is set to sign a three-year contract worth $100 million. This agreement, reported on Sunday, includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. Randle, who will turn 31 in November, had a $30.9 million player option for the 2025-26 season and could have become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Randle's decision to stay comes shortly after the Timberwolves secured Naz Reid with a five-year, $125 million contract extension that also includes a player option. Randle joined Minnesota just before the 2024-25 season began and played a crucial role in their success. During the regular season, he averaged 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and led the team with 4.7 assists over 69 games.

In the play-offs, Randle's performance was even more impressive. He averaged 21.7 points while shooting 50.2 percent from the field, improving from his regular-season shooting percentage of 48.5 percent. His contributions were vital in helping Minnesota reach the Western Conference finals during his first year with the team.
Randle was initially drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers as the seventh overall pick in 2014. Before joining Minnesota, he spent five seasons with New York where he earned three All-Star selections and was twice named an All-NBA player. Over his NBA career spanning 11 seasons, Randle has averaged 19.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
The Timberwolves' decision to retain Randle highlights their commitment to building a competitive team around key players like him and Reid. As one of the top forwards available in free agency this year, Randle's return is expected to bolster Minnesota's chances in future seasons significantly.
