Jung misses final berth, finishes 11th at the free pistol event
Sydney, May 3 (UNI) Ace Indian shooter Samaresh Jung narrowly missed the finals of the 50m free pistol event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup here as he finished 11th, just one point behind the last qualifier.
Jung shot a score of 557 (91+94+94+95+93+90) to miss the final cut by a point, while his fellow countrymen Vivek Singh was nowhere near as he finished 28th with a score of 550 (92+90+89+91+93+95).
The other Indian in the fray Amanpreet Singh Jhaam could only manage a score of 529 and finished 48th in the field of 51-shooters.
In the Minimun Qualifying Section (MQS), Deepak Sharma shot a score of 543 (92+85+93+87+92+94).
The gold in the event was won by Kokorev Boris of Russia with a total score of 659.1 (565+94.1), silver went to another Russian Leonid Ekimov who scored 657.7 (562+95.7), while Daemyung of Korea shot a score of 657.2 (561+96.2) to take the bronze.
Meanwhile, in the men's 50m rifle prone event Sanjeev Rajput secured a disappointing 42nd spot with a score of 587 (98+98+98+97+98+98), while Surendra Singh Rathod finished 53rd scoring 582 (96+97+95+99+98+97) in the field of 56-shooters.
The gold in this event wnet to Australia's Potent Warren with a score of 701.2 (599+102.2), silver was won by Tamas Thomas of US with a score of 699.8 (596+103.8), while Sauveplane Valerian of France took the bronze with a score of 699.7 (596+103.7).
