Junior National Volleyball from Jan 13
Vijayawada, Jan 11 (UNI) Fifty one teams will participate in the 33rd Junior National Volleyball Championship to be held here from January 13.
Addressing a press conference here, organising committee convenor B S Appa Rao said the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) had allotted the tourney for the first time to Andhra Pradesh.
He said 27 teams in the boys section and 24 in girls section would take part in the championship, which would be held on league-cum-knock-out phase.
Six courts, equipped with floodlights, have been spruced up for the championship, he said and added a camp fire would also be organised on January 17 for the teams to participate in cultural events.
A website (www.juniornationalvolleyball.org) has also been launched to access information about the championship, he added.
He said Arjuna award winners in volleyball would be felicitated during the tournament.
Meanwhile, tournament director and former international and Arjuna and Dhronacharaya awardee A Ramana Rao told UNI the Indian Junior Team probables comprising 36 boys and 36 girls would be announced for the Asian Youth Championship to he held at Manila, Phillipines in May 2007.
He said the list of probables would be pruned to 12 each in the boys and girls sections after holding a camp at Bangalore or Visakhapatnam in the first week of February.
