Jwala-Ashwini enter CWG women's doubles finals

By Samyuktha

New Delhi, Oct 13: Assuring the hosts that Saina Nehwal is not the only one leading India towards the coveted Gold in the Delhi Commonwealth Games' badminton arena, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa on Tuesday, Oct 13 marched into the finals of women's doubles event.

The second seeded duo dished out a 12-21, 21-13, 21-11 defeat to Australia's He Ting Tiang and Kate Wilson Smith to set up a final bout with top seeded Singaporean duo of Sari Shinta Mulia and Yao Lei.

The Indian women's doubles and the singles qualification for final fight came as a huge relief to the home crowd upset over the fall of Chetan and Kashyap in men's semifinal events.

“There was pressure on us once Chetan and Kashyap lost," said Jwala after the 47-minute semifinals.

“Yes. The crowd did help by getting up pumped up. I played too fast in the first game and it did not work. In the second, we slowed down the game and attacked more," she added.
