Jyothi Yarraji continued her strong showing in the 2023 season as the women's 100m hurdle national record holder ran a 12.84 seconds timing to win the Kurpfalz Gala tournament in Germany's Weinheim on Saturday. Men's 200m national record holder Amlan Borgohain clocked 20.66 seconds to win the gold as well.
Meanwhile, Parul Chaudhury won the bronze medal at USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix on Friday. The 3000m steeplechaser posted a new personal best of 9.29.51 seconds behind gold medallist Madie Boreman (9:22.99 seconds). Parul Chaudhary's previous best was 9:38.09 seconds, which came in Eugene last year right before the World Athletics Championships.

Meanwhile, Jyothi Yarraji, who broke the national record last year at 12.82 seconds, posted her season-best 10 days after the 23-year-old hurdler clocked 12.89 seconds at the Federation Cup in Ranchi. She also clocked her personal best in 200m at the meet at 23.42 seconds to clinch the gold.
This was the fourth time in her career that Jyothi clocked sub-13 seconds timing as her first came at the National Games last year when she clocked 12.79 seconds to win the gold. The timing, however, wasn't eligible for any record as it came with an illegal tailwind.
Amlan Borgohain has been in good form this season too as the 200m national record holder (20.52 seconds) clocked his season best after clocking 20.83 seconds in Ranchi. He earlier clocked 20.78s at the Indian Grand Prix in Bangalore. Both Amlan and Jyothi are coached by British sprint coach James Hillier.
In Germany, Hurdler Sapna Kumar was the other Indian competing in the event and finished sixth with a timing of 13.81 seconds. Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Lili Das finished fourth in the women's 800m with a timing of 2.05.27 seconds while Jinson Johnson (3:42.97 seconds) and Rahul (3:43.83s) finished 11th and 12th respectively in the men's 1500m.
