Kalinga Cup to be held from January 5 to 15

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (UNI) The prestigious Kalinga Cup football tournament will be held from January 5 to 15.

Kalinga Cup Organising Secretary Ashirbad Behera told newspersons here that the tournament would be played in various stadia of the state, including at Barabati Stadium Cuttack and Kalinga stadium Bhubaneswar.

As many as 16 teams are likely to participate in the tournament.

The decision was taken at a meeting here today.

Minister of State for Sports Debasis Nayak, Higher Education Minister Samir Dey and Transport Minister Jaynarayan Mishra were present.

Behera said the meeting decided to introduce for the first time cash award for man of the tournament and man of the match. The amount of the award would be decided later.

A sum of Rs one lakh would be given to the winning team and Rs 50,000 to the runners up, he said.

A sum of Rs 20 lakh had been earmarked for conducting the tournament, he said.
