New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi was today honoured with the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) award at a glittering ceremony during the General Assembly of the ANOC, being held at Beijing, China.
Kalmadi was honoured for his contribution towards the Olympic movement and for promoting Olympic sports in India. In the absence of Kalmadi at the meeting, the award was received by a representative of the Indian delegation.
According to the Jt Secretary, IOA, Lalit K Bhanot, the award was presented by International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge and ANOC president Mario Vazquez Rana.
The ceremony was attended by the presidents and Secretary Generals of all 205 National Olympic Committees and several international delegates.
ANOC comprises of 205 member countries which are a major force in promoting the Olympic movement.
The ANOC General Assembly is a biennial event and facilitates communication and cooperation in the international sports community.
