New Delhi, Aug 5: Amid speculation that Kamlesh Mehta would take over as the next national Table Tennis coach, the former Olympian today made it clear that he would be taking up the offer only if his terms and conditions are met by the Sports Ministry.
Earlier, just after the recently-held Commomwealth Table Tennis Championship in Jaipur, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) recommended the Arjuna Awardee's name to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for the post vacated by the Swedish-born coach Benone Christian Grigore.
But Kamlesh, who is still waiting for a decision from the authority, said the probability of him taking up the job now rests with the Ministry and the TTFI.
''I made them (TTFI) amply clear that I need to know my terms and conditions before reaching a conclusion on this matter,'' Kamlesh said on the sidelines of an event to announce the conception of training videos for rookies by STAG.
''I would take up the job only if my terms and conditions are met,'' he added.
The former national champion was of the view that the lack of remuneration for national coaches is one of the many factors why top players were not returning back to the game in the capacity of coaches.
''Lack of money is one of the reasons why top players don't come back to the game. Every individual needs money to support their family and to mantain a minimum standard of living,'' he said.
