New Delhi, Oct 7: Indian Para-Swimmer Prasanta Karmakar on Wednesday, Oct 6 won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle at the S P Mukherjee Swimming Complex here, becoming the first Indian ever to win a medal in aquatics in Commonwealth Games.
Starting the finals with the fourth fastest time, physically challenged Karmakar clocked the best of 27.48, setting a new national record.
Prasanta lagged behind by 2.15 seconds from first placed Australian, Matthew Cowdrey and 0.78 seconds short of second-placed Simon Miller of England.
Prasanta lost part of his right arm from childhood when a vehicle hit him on a bus window.
