By Staff

Panaji, Feb 13 (UNI) A scintillating knock of 152 by Ganesh Satish and a valuable 53 by S P Manjunath enabled Karnataka score an emphatic 216-run victory over Hyderabad in the U-25 South Zone inter-state P S Ram Mohan Rao trophy cricket tournament match played at the MCC Ground at Margao.

In the two other matches, Kerala outplayed Tamil Nadu by seven wickets at the SAG Ground also in Margao, while Andhra Pradesh defeated hosts Goa by three wickets at the Panjim Gymakhana Ground.

Karnataka and Kerala have won both their matches with bonus points and are leading the table with 10 points each. For Andhra Pradesh, this is their first win after losing to Karnataka yesterday. Hosts Goa lost both the matches in a row and have no points to their credit. Tamil Nadu, who won yesterday with bonus points against Goa, lost to Kerala today.

Karnataka, after winning the toss, elected to bat and amassed 300 runs losing eight wickets in the alloted 50 overs with Ganesh Satish contributing a magnificent 152 which was studded with 19 hits to the fence and two sixes in 142 balls and 218 minutes of stay.

Manjunath contributed 53 runs.

Sarvesh Kumar, who claimed three wickets for 35, was the most succesful bowler for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad, chasing the taget off 301 runs for a win, could not negotiate the pace attack of medium-pacer A Mithun (six for 27) and collapsed like nine pins for a paltry 84 in 25.2 overs.

In the second match played at Panjim Gymkhana, an inspired bowling spell by off-spinner G V S Prasad (five for 19) and valuable 71 by M Krishna Murthy enabled Andhra Pradesh defeat Goa by three wickets.

Goa, after winning the toss, elected to bat first and managed to score 194 in 48.3 overs on the strength of a captain's knock of 58 by Sachin Sardessai. Madhu Kamat chipped in with 37 runs and Rigan Pinto contributed 27.

Andhra Pradesh, chasing the winning target of 195 runs, had no difficulty in surpassing the host's total in 47.1 overs with M Krishnamurthy's valuable contribution of 71 runs that was laced with six fours. J T Yadav contributed 30 runs and Khanan Mohiddin 21 runs. Chandu Lamani was the most succesful bowler for Goa, claiming three wickets for 36 runs.

Kerala, after skittling out Tamil Nadu for 180 in 44.3 overs, had no difficulty in negotiating the attack from Tamil Nadu and reached the winning target of 181 losing only three wickets in 35 overs with a fine contribution from Arun Polous of 100 runs laced with 12 fours and two sixes which came in 102 balls and from 139 minutes of stay.

He was ably assisted by Rakesh K J (not out 32) and Vinit Vishwanth (25).
