Karnataka rule pool in National Games

Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) Karnataka continued to rule the swimming pool in the 33rd National Games today, with the team picking up four more yellow medals besides erasing a meet record.

The biggest upset of the day was Richa Mishra of Delhi, who failed to win a single Gold after having dominated the women's events for the last three days.

In the 200 mt butterfly stroke for men, Rehan Poncha of Karnataka won the Gold with a timing of 2.07.41 minutes.

The Silver medal was notched by Srinand Srinivas of Karnataka, clocking 2.08.88 minutes. Aditya Sangvekar of Maharashtra clinched the Bronze, with a timing of 2.11.72 minutes.

In the 50 mt breaststroke for men, the Gold medal was clinched by Sandeep Sejwal of Delhi, clocking 0.30.56 minute.

The Silver was won by Punjab's Puneet Rana, clocking 0.30.74 minute, while the Bronze went to Rohit Kumar of Delhi, with a timing of 0.31.46 minute.

The Gold medal in 200 mt butterfly stroke for women was won by Pooja R Alva of Karnataka, clocking 2.24.24 minutes. Richa had to contend with Silver medal, with a timing of 2.24.99 minutes.

The Bronze was notched by Madhavi Giri of Karnataka, with a timing of 2.30.51 minutes.

In 50 mt breaststroke for women, the Gold was won by Lekha Kamath of Maharashtra, clocking 0.36.28 minute. The Silver medal was clinched by M Mini of Kerela, clocking 0.37.77 minute, while the Bronze went to M S Divya of Andhra Pradesh, with a timing of 0.38.05 minute.

The lone record in the pool today was set in the 4 x 200 mt freestyle relay for men, with Karnataka slicing the previous record by 0.01.38 minute. They clocked 8.09.80 minutes to better the record set by the Andhra Pradesh team in the 2002 National Games.

The Silver medal was notched by Maharashtra, with a timing of 8.16.69 minutes. The Bronze was won by SSCB team clocking 8.17.58 minutes.

In the women's category of the 4 x 200 mt freestyle for women, the Gold was won by Karnataka, clocking 9.17.41 minutes. Maharashtra clinched the Silver medal, with a timing of 9.31.04 minutes. The Bronze was notched by Kerela, with a timing of 9.45.37 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the three mt spring board diving for men, M Manish Kumar of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) clinched the Gold medal.

Teammate G B Sharath won the Silver medal, while the Bronze went to T Jagdish Singh of Manipur.
