Karthikeyan wins Asian Junior Chess C' ship

Mumbai, Dec 21: P Karthikeyan today pipped his fellow Indian Aswin Jayaram to win the Asian Junior Chess Championship in the boys section at Goregaon Sports Club here.

Karthikeyan and Jayaram both finished with seven points at the end of nine rounds, but the former was declared the champion as his progressive score was better than that of Jayaram. The last round saw top two boards fighting for the title. On the first board, Jayaram was having half point lead but, still needed to win the game to emerge as a winner as his progressive score was very low. Meanwhile, on the second board, Karthikeyan playing with white pieces won his game against Vishnu Prasanna to move to seven points.
