Karunya University defeats Loyola in college tourney

Coimbatore, Sep 15 (UNI) Host Karunya University today lifted the Evangeline Football championship by defeating Chennai Loyola College in the tie-breaker by 3-2 during the 15th South India Inter Collegiate Karunya Evangeline Memorial Tournament here.

Karunaya had dominated right from the beginning and opened their account in the 14th minute. They, however, went on manning the defence till the final whistle.

The defending champion Loyola, went into the attack in the last 20 minutes of the second half and restored parity. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

However, in the tie-breaker, Karunya converted two kicks from the dreaded spot, whereas Loyola could score only one.

The other highlight of the match was when the three time champion Kongu Arts College, Karur, has continued their winning note in Kabbadi (men) Category, defeating Layola College, 7-4.

Other Results MCC Chennai and Pachaiappa College secured third and fourth place respectively, in the soccer when the former beat later by 3-2 With the score in tie breaker 3 - 2.

Kabbadi ( Women) EMG Yadava, Madurai won the championship, beating Queen Mary''s Chennai by 12 - 11.

Volleyball (Men) Karunya University was defeated by PSG Coimbatore 27-25, 25-17.

Volleyball (Women) Tellicherry Govt, Brennen beat Ethiraj Collge, Chennai, 25 -21, 26-24.

Basketball (Women) Tellicherry Govt, Bennen beat MOP Vaishnava Chennai by 63-41.
