Kavita, Surendra set new course records in half marathon

Mumbai, Jan 20 (UNI) The Standard Chartered Mumbai marathon saw course records being set in both the men's and women's half marathon with Surendra Singh winning in a time of 1:05:43.57, while Kavita Raut setting a course record in a time frame of 1:16:36.81, here today.

Raut beat the previous best, set by Telga Loroupe of Kenya of 1:18:50 in the year 2005, while Surendra Singh beat the record of Deep Chand of 1:07:11 also set in the same year.

The second place in the women's half marathon was taken by Preeja Sreedharan, who also beat the previous mark set by Kavita to finish with a timing of 1:16:38.07.

The third place was won by Preetil Rao who completed within 1:19:26.51.

In the men's half marathon, the second place went to Jutsi Utrianen of Finland who clocked a time of 1:05:57.07, while the third place went to India's Santosh Kumar in a time of 1:06:16.85.

The winners, 1st runner's up and 2nd runner's up in both men's and women's section gets a cash prize of USD 1,150, USD 850 and USD 600 respectively.
