KDSA to felicitate meritorious sports persons

Vijayawada, Aug 28 (UNI) The Krishna District Sports Authority (KDSA) would felicitate meritorious sports persons from the district, who brought laurels to the country by winning various events in 2006-07, here tomorrow.

About 19 gold medalists, including Ch Lenin (Archery), Bharata Reddy (Athletics), N Suswetha (Badminton), G Naga Raju (Ball Badminton), Sowmya (Gymnastics), K Swetha (Kabaddi), G Kiran Kumari (Netball), and 10 silver and bronze medalists, who had won various events in senior and junior categories from this district last year, would be felicitated on the occasion of National Sports Day celebrations, district Sports Development Officer B Sudhakar told reporters here this evening.

The SAI would also award scholarships for those sportspersons who had secured gold, silver and bronze medals at the National level and University Championships, he added.

He said besides this, the Chalasani Babu Rajendra Prasad Academy for Sports and Education here would present cash awards of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 for those who had secured gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The KDSA would also felicitate the parents of the National medalists, he said, and added district Superintendent of Police M K Singh would be the Chief Guest and Dronacharya Awardee Ramana Rao would preside over the function.
