Steve Kerr Reflects On Surreal Moment With Klay Thompson Ahead Of Reunion With Steph Curry

Steve Kerr expressed deep emotions regarding Klay Thompson's return to the Bay Area as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. He recalled a surreal moment with Steph Curry before the game, highlighting their shared history and Thompson's resilience after injuries.

Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, shared his heartfelt feelings about Klay Thompson's return to the Bay Area. Thompson, now with the Dallas Mavericks, scored 22 points in an emotional game at Chase Center. Despite Thompson's performance, it was Steph Curry who shone brightly, scoring 37 points and leading the Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Mavericks in the NBA Cup.

Thompson's tenure with the Warriors spanned 13 years, during which he won four NBA Championships alongside Kerr. After the match, Kerr described a poignant moment with Curry before facing Thompson on the court. "We went over our pre-game scout and the matchups," Kerr said. "It was almost surreal saying, Steph, you got Klay." Steph responded with a smile.

Kerr Remembers Thompson Ahead of Curry Reunion

During his time in California, Thompson was integral to a core group that included Curry and Draymond Green. This trio brought immense success to the team. However, Thompson faced significant challenges when he missed over two years due to consecutive injuries: first an ACL tear followed by a torn right Achilles tendon. He made his comeback in January 2022.

Kerr praised Thompson's determination to return to basketball after such setbacks. "I think what he overcame is almost unprecedented," Kerr told reporters. The coach acknowledged how difficult it was for Thompson to reconcile losing prime playing years and how he fought hard to regain his form.

Kerr reflected on Thompson's departure from the Warriors with mixed emotions. "We wished that this had gone forever," he said about Thompson potentially finishing his career with them. However, circumstances led to different paths. Kerr believed that despite everything, Thompson made the right decision for himself.

The coach noted that seeing Thompson unhappy was tough because he deserved happiness. At heart, Kerr described him as a joyful person who contributed significantly to their success. His resilience and achievements remain admired by both fans and teammates alike.

The reunion at Chase Center highlighted not only past triumphs but also personal growth for both players involved. As they continue their respective journeys in basketball history books will remember their contributions fondly.
