Kevin Durant, already the most decorated United States men's basketball Olympian, is targeting another Games. Durant wants a fifth Olympic appearance with Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, even though Durant will be close to 40 years old when that tournament starts.
Durant explained that the decision is not about age or past success, but about ongoing ambition. Durant said, "I didnt want to just take my name out of consideration just because of the simple fact that Im older and I did it before," after producing 18 points and a season-high 12 assists for the Houston Rockets in a 125-105 win over the Utah Jazz.

Durant, now 37, stands as the USA men's basketball career scoring leader at the Olympics. Durant has featured in each of the past four men's Olympic tournaments, with the United States winning gold on every occasion. No other American man has four Olympic basketball gold medals; Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird each own five in the women's game.
Durant emphasised a deep attachment to the national programme when speaking about future plans. Durant said, "Grant understands my love for Team USA. That's my family. The level of love I have for Team USA and the whole organisation over there is unmatched, so I'd love to be part of it until Im done playing." Durant added, "I just love playing for Team USA," and continued, "I love representing my country. That's the first and most important thing - it's putting that USA across my chest and representing where I come from."
Despite being one of the NBA's oldest active players, the 2013-14 league MVP continues to deliver elite production. In Durant's 18th NBA season, Durant ranks 11th in scoring with 25.9 points per game, while also averaging 5.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Durant is shooting 50.7 per cent overall and 40.9 per cent from three-point range.
Durant's Olympic record places the forward alongside the sport's most decorated names. The four gold medals highlight Durant's influence on each successful run with Team USA. The comparison with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird, who have five women's golds each, underlines how often Durant has been central to United States Olympic success.

Durant earned selection to a 16th NBA All-Star Game this season, showing ongoing respect from coaches and fans. However, Durant recognises that a fifth Olympic spot is not guaranteed. Durant said, "I understand how tough that decision is for Grant, and how many great players are going to emerge the next year and a half, and I'm also very old compared to a lot of these players," before adding, "I know I've got my work cut out for me to make that team."
Durant's wish to stay in contention for the 2028 Los Angeles Games underlines long-term commitment to the national team, as well as confidence in maintaining form. The combination of historic Olympic production, current NBA numbers and respect for the selection process will shape whether Durant extends a record-breaking run with Team USA.
