Khade finishes 7th in 100m freestyle to set another national record

By Staff

Monterrey, Mexico, Jul 14 (UNI) Adding another feather to his cap, India's Virdhawal Khade clocked 50.49sec to set yet another national record as he finished seventh in the semi-finals of the 100m freestyle at the second FINA World Youth Swimming Championships here.

Just four days ago, India's Beijing-qualified swimmer, Khade had clocked 50.64sec while swimming the first leg of the 4x100m freestyle relay but the Kohlapur lad surpassed his previous timing to create fourth record in just five days at the premier junior meet.

This was the third fastest timing by the 17-year-old Khade in the 100m freestyle semi-finals with Luca Leonardi of Italy (50.41 sec) and Lucien Hassdenteufel of Germany (50.46) turning in fractionally faster times.

Seeded third, Khade will aim to finish the meet on a high with some impressive performances to back him.

Khade finished fifth in the 50m freestyle and sixth in the 200m freestyle events, single-handedly earning the Indian contingent 25 points.

India, after five days, stands at the 25th position with 25 points in their kitty.
