Kimi Antonelli described his final lap that secured pole position for the Miami Grand Prix sprint race as mighty, as the teenage rookie topped the timesheets on Friday. Antonelli held off challenges from McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris to become the youngest-ever pole-sitterfor either of Formula One's qualifying formats. He pipped championship leader Piastri by0.045 seconds to clinch his first pole in the competition, with Norris starting in third and Max Verstappen one place further back.

Antonelli expressed his excitement about starting on the front row, acknowledging it would be a unique experience. "The last lap was mighty," he said, adding that he felt confident since practice. His teammate George Russell finished fifth, 0.309 seconds behind him. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were sixth and seventh respectively.

Antonelli Claims Pole Position in Miami Sprint
Williams' Alex Albon, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar, and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso completed the top ten positions. Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull will start from 18th place. Antonelli noted that beating Russell in qualifying was a significant achievement for him.

Lando Norris expressed satisfaction with his performance but acknowledged that overtaking Antonelli would be challenging during the race. Returning to Miami International Autodrome after his first victory there last year, Norris is second in the drivers' standings, trailing Piastri by ten points.

McLaren's Norris was pleased with his efforts in sprint qualifying, while suggesting it would be difficult for him and Piastri to pass Antonelli in the race.

Norris stated that despite being close to securing a better position, he was content with his lap time. He emphasised focusing on this weekend's performance as both he and Piastri aim to gain points before Sunday's race.

The Briton returned to theMiami International Autodrome for the first time since claiming his maiden race victory at the circuit last year.

Piastri Sets Early Pace

Earlier in practice sessions, Oscar Piastri set a fast pace before an incident involving Haas' Oliver Bearman cut short proceedings. Piastri was 0.356 seconds faster than Leclerc who came second during practice sessions.
