Klay Thompson experienced a unique reunion with the Golden State Warriors as he led the Dallas Mavericks to a win in his second visit to Chase Center. Thompson scored 29 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, contributing to Dallas's season-high 21 three-pointers in their 143-133 victory on Sunday. Luka Doncic also shone for Dallas, recording 45 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds.
In his previous game against the Warriors last month, Thompson managed 22 points with six three-pointers in a narrow 120-117 loss. His return was celebrated with fanfare, including captain's hats for fans and an emotional video tribute. However, Thompson noted that his second return felt less emotional and more settled.

"It was very surreal," Thompson remarked. "I was 21 years old when I came here and to see the city and the town is always special. So many good memories. It was way easier. Especially not seeing all the captain's hats. I saw a few of those. Much easier. Felt more settled than the first time I was out here."
The Mavericks have now secured victories in 12 of their last 14 games, while the Warriors have faced challenges, losing eight of their last ten games after starting the season strong at 12-3.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 26 points and ten assists, while Draymond Green achieved season highs with 21 points and five three-pointers. Curry matched Thompson by making seven three-pointers, marking a historic moment as they became the first duo to achieve this feat both as teammates and opponents.
The Mavericks will not face the Warriors again until February, giving Thompson more time to adjust to his new team dynamics. Reflecting on guarding former teammate Curry, Thompson shared his thoughts: "It's different, but I am getting more accustomed to it with each time we face each other."
Thompson expressed appreciation for facing top players like Curry: "We guarded each other plenty of times in practices and scrimmages. You always cherish the moments you get to face the best players." He added that it's a story he can share alongside guarding legends like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.
The game highlighted both teams' strengths and challenges as they navigate through their respective seasons. With upcoming matches ahead, both teams aim to refine their strategies and continue competing at high levels.
