Knicks Reach NBA Finals 2026: Towns Says Run Is Magical And Historic
The New York Knicks move into the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the Eastern Conference finals, closing the series with a 130-93 victory. Karl-Anthony Towns describes the achievement as a moment the franchise and city have long awaited.
The Knicks are now on an 11-game playoff winning streak, tied for the third-longest in NBA history. Across those contests, New York have beaten opponents by an average margin of 23.8 points. Jalen Brunson claimed Eastern Conference finals MVP after a highly efficient series on both ends.

Brunson averaged 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists across the four games against Cleveland. OG Anunoby added 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per match. Towns produced 15.8 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Josh Hart supplied 14.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.25 steals.
| Player | Points per game | Rebounds per game | Assists per game | Steals per game |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jalen Brunson | 25.5 | 7.8 | 3.3 | - |
| OG Anunoby | 16.3 | 5.8 | 3.3 | - |
| Karl-Anthony Towns | 15.8 | 12 | 4 | - |
| Josh Hart | 14.3 | 7.8 | 5.5 | 2.25 |
"It's a magical thing, it's a historic thing," Towns said. "It's something New York has been dying for, for a long time. I know how this team works. It's OK for New York, the fans, us, our families, to enjoy this moment and be jubilant about this. But for us as players, the job is not done."
New York seized control of Game 4 early and never released the pressure, building a 20-point cushion in the second quarter. Towns led the scoring with 19 points, Anunoby followed with 17, while Brunson and Mikal Bridges each finished on 15 as the offensive balance overwhelmed Cleveland.
"I don't think a switch flipped, per se. I think that was the start of the habits we were building, starting to show," Hart said. "This is a very selfless group, and we were willing to sacrifice our own individual performances, or stats or accolades for the betterment of the team. When you have not just one or two or three, but a whole team of those kind of guys and that kind of character, it puts you in position to be successful."
The sweep, dominant margins and shared production underline how New York arrive in the Finals in strong form. The franchise, the fanbase and the players enjoy a long-awaited return to the league’s biggest stage, while Towns and teammates stress their focus remains on finishing the job.
