Kon Knueppel Breaks Rookie 3-Point Record While Emphasising Humble Hornets Culture

Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel set an NBA rookie record with 209 three-pointers in a season. He delivered 28 points against the Indiana Pacers, supported by teammates Brandon Miller, LaMelo Ball, and Moussa Diabate. Coach Charles Lee praised Knueppel's humility and team-first approach as a culture boost for the organisation.

Kon Knueppel powers the Charlotte Hornets past the Indiana Pacers while rewriting the NBA record books, drilling eight three-pointers in a 28-point display as Charlotte cruise to a 133-109 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The rookie guard reaches 209 made threes for the season, the most by any first-year player in league history, passing Keegan Murray’s 206 from the 2022-23 campaign and doing so in just 59 appearances.

Knueppel breaks rookie 3-point record setting tone

Knueppel’s scoring burst ties his career best for made threes in a single game and leaves the rookie only one shy of the overall NBA first-year record for triples in a contest, further underlining his shooting impact for Charlotte.

The 20-year-old surpasses Murray’s total in 21 fewer games, as Murray needed 80 outings with the Sacramento Kings in 2022-23, highlighting how quickly Knueppel’s range reshapes the Hornets’ attack across his debut campaign.

Head coach Charles Lee highlights how Knueppel’s attitude influences the locker room, saying: "It’s what elevates our whole culture when you have a guy that’s that good, but that humble, no egoit becomes contagious throughout your whole organisation," Lee told CGTN Sports Scene.

Knueppel, who contests the Rookie of the Year race against former team-mate Cooper Flagg, credits the Hornets system and staff, stressing the importance of reading the game correctly rather than chasing numbers in Charlotte’s offensive structure.

"Honestly, I thought I needed seven," Knueppel said, who only needed six points to break Murray’s record. "It’s really just about making the right basketball play. My teammates are setting good screens and setting me up in good spots. The coaches as well. I’m just out there looking to make the right play for my team."

While Knueppel grabs headlines with the record, Brandon Miller posts a game-high 33 points, LaMelo Ball contributes 20 and Moussa Diabate adds 14, underlining Charlotte’s balanced scoring as the Hornets strengthen confidence around a young core built for future seasons.
