Kotak century rescues Saurashtra on third day against Himachal

By Staff

Dharamsala, Nov 5 (UNI) A gritty unbeaten knock of 103 by S Kotak helped Saurashtra to take their second innings score to a respectable 216 for six at the close of play on the third day of their four day Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'A' match against Himachal Pradesh at the HPCA Stadium here today.

Resuming at their overnight score of 175 for the loss of eight wickets, Himachal Pradesh could add only six runs to their score as they were bundled out for a meagre 181.

K Makwana was the star performer for Saurashtra as he wrapped up the Himachal tail. He scalped six wickets giving away just 41 runs.

Saurashtra received an early jolt in their second innings as K Vaghela was dismissed by A Thakur in the very first over.

After Vaghela's dismissal the second wicket too fell early when the scorecard was reading 42. From there it seemed that the hosts were neck deep in trouble. But it was Chetaswar Pujara who held his nerve and battled on as wickets fell pack of cards at the other end.

Saurashtra was finally rescued by a seventh-wicket partnership of hundred runs between Pujara and R Druv, both of whom were still unbeaten at the draw of stumps.

Thakur, who picked up four wickets, was the best among the Himachal bowlers. He continued his impressive performance from the first innings, taking his match total to ten wickets so far.

Saurashtra now has an overall lead of 297 runs going in the final day of the match.
