Ladies European Tour to make debut in India
Dubai, Aug 8 (UNI) India is set to become the latest and the 26th stop on the 2007 Ladies European Tour (LET) schedule when it hosts the Indian Ladies Masters this December.
Co-sanctioned by the LET, the Women's Golf Association of India and the Indian Golf Union, the inaugural event, carrying a prize purse of 200,000 US dollars, will be promoted and organised by 'golf in DUBAI' from December 5 to 8, at a venue soon to be announced.
Intrestingly 'golf in DUBAI' are also promoting and organising the Indian Masters to be held at the Delhi Golf Club from February 7 to 10, next year boasting a prize-fund of 2.5 million dollars, the richest golfing event ever to be held in India.
''The Ladies European Tour is delighted to be visiting India for the first time in its history,'' said Alexandra Armas, the LET's Executive Director while announcing the landmark event.
''This new tournament consolidates the LET's growth internationally and provides further evidence of the attention that our sport is attracting worldwide,'' she said.
According to Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI)'s secretary-general Champika Sayal ''The Indian Ladies Masters will usher in a new era in building stronger bonds between golfing fraternities across different continents of the world.'' UNI
