Luka Doncic delivered a 38-point triple-double as the Los Angeles Lakers rallied past the Denver Nuggets 115-107, overturning a 16-point deficit with a dominant second half built on improved Lakers defence and stronger discipline on both ends.
The Nuggets led at half-time after outscoring the Lakers in both opening quarters, yet Denver managed only 36 points after the interval while Los Angeles produced 58, with Doncic, LeBron James and Marcus Smart driving the Lakers offence during the turnaround.

This matchup came shortly after Doncic was confirmed as an NBA All-Star starter from the Western Conference, joining Stephen Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama, with the Lakers guard finishing as the leading fan vote-getter.
Doncic reflected on that recognition and described how far the journey felt from Slovenia to Los Angeles. "I mean its incredible. I just want to thank everyone that voted for me," added Doncic. "[Im] just a kid from Slovenia just dreaming about playing in the NBA. To come here an have this, Im very honoured. I just want to say thank you to everybody."
James added 19 points and Smart scored 15, supporting Doncic, who also collected 13 rebounds and 10 assists. The Lakers had struggled defensively earlier this season, yet the group responded in Denver with tighter rotations and better control of Denver’s shooters.
Doncic felt the defensive shift during the game defined the result. "It was awesome. What did they score, like 36 in the second half? So it was awesome," said Doncic. The comments highlighted how strongly the Lakers defence responded after half-time.
Doncic explained that Los Angeles initially tried a zone, similar to the approach against Toronto, before changing tactics. "Against Toronto the zone [defence] worked for us and we tried that in the first half here but it didnt work out. We switched the plan and to stick to that [second] plan in the middle of the game was very impressive by us. They have a lot of great players. We stayed together, man. We fought this out."
The statistical contrast between each half underlined those adjustments, as Denver lost rhythm while Los Angeles controlled tempo, rebounding and half-court execution, with Doncic orchestrating possessions and James and Smart adding timely scoring support.
{TABLE_1}The performance in Denver gave the Lakers a statement road win, reinforced Doncic’s All-Star starter status and showed how swiftly tactical changes, improved effort and collective focus on Lakers defence allowed Los Angeles to overturn a sizeable deficit against strong opposition.
