The Los Angeles Lakers faced a challenging period after their third consecutive NBA loss, this time against the San Antonio Spurs. Victor Wembanyama was instrumental for the Spurs, scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds in their 126-102 victory. This game marked the Spurs' return following postponements due to local wildfires.
Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle also contributed 23 points each for the Spurs. Harrison Barnes added 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, helping the team secure control late in the game. Despite Anthony Davis's impressive 30 points and 13 rebounds, along with LeBron James's 18 points and eight assists, the Lakers couldn't stop their losing streak.

The Spurs managed to defeat the Lakers for the first time in three encounters this season. They outperformed Los Angeles significantly in the second half, scoring 73-40. Austin Reaves contributed with 12 points and eight assists for Los Angeles. The Lakers had an 11-point lead in the third quarter but faltered in the final 16 minutes.
The Lakers' recent defeats against the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks have left them with a record of 20-17, placing them seventh in the Western Conference standings. Dorian Finney-Smith emphasised unity among teammates despite these setbacks. "We got to stick together," he stated. "Long season, it's a real long season."
Finney-Smith stressed that improving defensively is crucial for turning things around. "First of all, we got to be better defensively," he said. He acknowledged that while shots will eventually fall due to their hard work, focusing on defence is essential.
Finney-Smith noted a decline in defensive performance over recent games since his arrival and highlighted the need for improvement. "We didn't execute the game plan like we were supposed to," he admitted. However, he praised the coaching staff for providing effective strategies.
The Lakers have not experienced four straight losses under head coach JJ Redick's leadership before. They aim to break this streak when they face off against the Miami Heat on Wednesday.
