Lance Armstrong shocker: Doping is not cheating

Chicago, Jan 18: Millions of fans might be upset and shocked over Lance Armstrong's sensational confession of consuming performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France. The former American road racing cyclist, during an interview with Opra Winfrey, also asserted that he did not cheat others with his decision of using drugs.

When asked whether he had felt in any way that he was cheating, Armstrong replied, "No. I went and looked up the definition of cheat. And the definition is to gain an advantage on a rival or foe. I didn't view it that way. I viewed it as a level playing field."

"I know the truth. The truth isn't what was out there, the truth isn't what I said... This story was so perfect for so long... you overcome the disease, you win the Tour de France seven times, you have a happy marriage, you have children. I mean, it's just this mythic, perfect story," added Armstrong while facing Winfrey's questions regarding the controversies over him and doping.

In a rapid fire round with Winfrey, Armstrong admitted using blood-boosting EPO, blood doping transfusions and testosterone or human growth hormone during all seven of his Tour wins.

"It's a major flaw, and it's a guy who expected to get whatever he wanted and to control every outcome. And it's inexcusable. And when I say there are people who will hear this and never forgive me, I understand that. I do," said Armstrong while regretting his act during the tour.

Following a US Anti-Doping Agency report in Oct 2011, Armstrong was stripped of all his titles and banned for life from competing in triathlons and other sanctioned events. He also lost nearly all his sponsors and left the Livestrong cancer charity he founded in 1997.
