Lando Norris of McLaren clinched pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix, narrowly surpassing Charles Leclerc of Ferrari during the final lap of Saturday's qualifying. Norris outpaced Leclerc by 0.109 seconds, while Oscar Piastri, Norris' teammate, secured third place. Initially, Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari finished behind Piastri but was later demoted to seventh for blocking Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who moved up to fourth.
Norris expressed his joy over securing pole position, stating: "It's been a long time coming, I feel good. I don't think you realise how good this feels with quite a few struggles over the last couple of months. Especially here in Monaco, it's a beautiful place and the hardest track probably to do it. Up against the hometown hero [Leclerc], I'm very proud of the whole team, we've worked a lot over the last few months to get to a day like today so I'm very pleased." This marked Norris' first pole since winning at the Australian Grand Prix earlier in the season.

Norris credited McLaren's strategic approach for their success. He noted that their risk-free plan proved effective both before and after qualifying. "It was no risk from our side. It's what we believed was best before qualifying and proven to be the best after, so we stuck to what we believed in," he said. He also thanked his team for their hard work both on-site and at the factory.
Oscar Piastri was content with his third-place finish despite making an error on his initial lap. Reflecting on Monaco's challenging qualifying session, he remarked: "It's intense as it always is around here...the first lap felt good and the second lap I made a mistake in the chicane, and I left a little bit on there." He acknowledged that surpassing Norris would have been difficult but remained satisfied with his performance.
The top ten qualifiers included Lando Norris (McLaren), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), and Alex Albon (Williams).
Piastri described his weekend as chaotic but was pleased with his final lap performance that earned him third place. Despite challenges throughout the weekend, he felt satisfied with achieving a strong result under pressure at such a demanding circuit like Monaco.
The race promises excitement as drivers prepare for one of Formula 1's most prestigious events. With Norris leading from pole position and fierce competition behind him, fans can anticipate an engaging contest on this iconic street circuit.
