Late birdies help Atwal to make cut in Players Cup

Bridgeport, USA, Jul 12 (UNI) Ace Indian pro Arjun Atwal came back just in time with two late birdies as he placed himself just inside the cut line with a round of 73 in the one million dollar Nationwide Tour Players Cup here.

Atwal had a disastrous start to his front nine which was marked with a bogey-bogey start. Half way through the round he was two-over.

However, things started looking ominous for the Orlando-based Indian at the back nine as he sandwiched the 12th hole birdie between bogeys, which left him at a poor three-over for the day.

But Atwal managed a comeback just when it looked all over for him. The Indian sunk successive birdies on the 16th and 17th and parred the final hole to sign off with 73 to take his two-day total to one-under 143.

Meanwhile, Matt Bettencourt (134) with eight-under 64 was leading by one shot over Rick Price (71).
