LeBron James expressed his frustration after the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 118-97 defeat against a depleted Dallas Mavericks team. This marked their second consecutive loss in Texas, following a previous setback against the Houston Rockets. "I mean, it sucks, obviously, especially knowing where we were and how well we've been playing," James commented post-game. The Lakers' standing fell to sixth in the Western Conference with a 20-16 record.
Before these losses, the Lakers had secured fourth place with eight victories in their last 11 games. However, their performance did not improve after a 119-115 loss to Houston on Sunday. Despite missing key players like Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Daniel Gafford, the Mavericks outperformed the Lakers 63-47 in the second half. James acknowledged Mavericks coach Jason Kidd's effective strategy.

James noted that Kidd's game plan specifically targeted Austin Reaves. "I felt like they just put people in pick-and-roll who they wanted in pick-and-roll and they tried to exploit matchups," said James. He added that when rotations occurred, they failed to make enough secondary efforts. James concluded the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
Austin Reaves admitted his subpar performance during the game against Dallas. "The first half was God-awful," said Reaves, who managed to score 15 points while shooting five-of-14 from the field. He acknowledged some improvement in the second half but admitted he couldn't allow such poor play on both ends of the court.
Looking ahead, the Lakers will return to Los Angeles for their next eight games. Their upcoming schedule begins with hosting the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday. "We got another game in less than 48 hours," stated James. He emphasized that dwelling too much on past losses isn't feasible in the NBA.
James highlighted that it's crucial to learn from mistakes but also prepare for upcoming opponents quickly. With another home game approaching on Thursday, there's little time for reflection as they aim to bounce back from recent setbacks.
